Conversational Hebrew Online

This page isnโ€™t about "mastering Hebrew in a month" โ€” itโ€™s about getting you talking. Real phrases, audio and live dialogues instead of grammar drills.

The 3-step method

Step 1. Sound first

Listen and repeat out loud before anything else. Conversational Hebrew lives in your ears. Ten minutes of audio a day beats an hour of textbook reading.

Step 2. Ready-made chunks

Memorize whole phrase-builders, not isolated words: "can I...", "I want...", "how much...". Around 40โ€“50 of these chunks cover 80% of everyday situations.

Step 3. Real dialogues

Practice short dialogues right away: shop, taxi, cafรฉ. The trainer plays the other person and checks you โ€” the closest thing to a real conversation.

FAQ

How soon can I start speaking Hebrew?

Simple everyday phrases โ€” within your first week. To hold a short conversation comfortably (order food, ask for directions, introduce yourself) you usually need 2โ€“3 months at 20โ€“30 minutes of daily practice.

How is conversational Hebrew different from "textbook" Hebrew?

Spoken Hebrew drops some sounds and leans heavily on slang and loanwords from English and Arabic, plus filler words like "yalla", "davka", "sababa". Textbooks rarely teach this โ€” you need practice with real dialogues and audio.

Do I need the alphabet to learn conversational Hebrew?

To start speaking, no โ€” you can begin with transliteration. But itโ€™s worth learning the alphabet early: itโ€™s simple (22 letters) and speeds up your progress. We have a dedicated letters trainer.

How do I practice speaking without a partner?

Use the audio trainer and say phrases out loud, imitating the speaker. Then work through mini-dialogues in the "easy" trainer and lock in vocabulary with flashcards. This builds automatic speech.

Is it free?

The first lessons and basic trainers are free. The full 16-lesson course and advanced trainers are available by subscription. You can start right now at no cost.
