Start with the alphabet and reading (1–2 weeks), then numbers, time, questions and phrases for everyday situations (weeks 3–6), then past and future tense so you can talk about yourself (weeks 7–12). Combine ulpan with online lessons.

The 90-day plan

Weeks 1–2: read and build first sentences

The alphabet and final letters, nouns and the article, present tense, questions and “no”. You can read signs and ask “where?” and “how much?”.

Weeks 3–6: the city and everyday life

Prepositions and places, numbers and time, “my / your”, adjectives, the particle אֶת. Enough to book a doctor, give an address and understand a price.

Weeks 7–12: talk about yourself

Food, directions, past and future tense, adverbs and set phrases. You can say what you did yesterday and what you plan — the level you need for an interview or ulpan class.

FAQ

What should a new oleh learn first?

The alphabet and reading, numbers and time, “where / how much / when” questions and phrases for concrete situations: doctor, bank, renting. Add grammar gradually, as those situations need it.

Can an online course replace ulpan?

Use both. New immigrants are entitled to a free ulpan — check the terms with the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration. Ulpan gives live speaking and a group; online lessons give review at your own pace and a head start before classes begin.

How long until I can manage everyday life?

At 20–30 minutes a day, basic situations — shop, doctor, bus — usually take 2–3 months. Free conversation at work takes considerably longer.

Can I start before moving?

Yes, and it is the best time: do the alphabet and first lessons before aliyah so you can read signs and forms in your first weeks in Israel.

How much does it cost?

Lessons 1–2, the trainers and the dictionary are free — lessons 1–2 even without sign-up. The full course is ₪30/month with 3 free days or ₪240/year.
